Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. They celebrate St. Patrick´s Day on March 17 th , the day of St. Patrick´s death.
Saint Patrick was born in Wales, studied religion to become a priest and them went to Ireland to teach the people about God.There are many wonderful stories about St. Patrick.The most famous legend is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland.
Another famous legend is about the leprechaun. Leprechauns are tiny people dressed in green and they collect pots of gold. If you catch a leprechaun he will lead you to his pot of gold.
Many people wear green clothes on this day because green is the colour of Ireland and the green shamrock leaf is a symbol of St. Patrick and Ireland.Irish people say a shanrock brings good luck. The shamrock was a sacred plant in ancient Ireland because it symbolized the rebirth of spring.

Last year.close to one million people took part in Ireland´s St. Patrick´s Festival in Dublin with parades, concerts, outdoor theater productions and fireworks shows
Today, St. Patrick´s Day is celebrated in United States, England,Canada and Australia too.
